Richard C.Winfrey Jr.'s Bio

I have been painting for about twenty years now. In high school I taught myself by copying drawings out of library books. Once in college I studied under many excellent drawing and painting teachers. This is where I developed an interest in portrait drawing. In 1990 I graduated from Art school. I then found a job in the textiles industry reproducing art for screen printing. As I have worked toward developing as a Fine Artist, I have found myself doing a variety of different kinds of art, including portraits, cards, logos and advertising. The developing of my own art has been more contemporary in style,"modern art". I married in 1991 and have found that raising a family has also had major influence on the direction of my art.

In August of 2004, through Divine intervention, I moved my family here to North Carolina. In July of 2005 my wife and I had our first daughter after having had five sons. Life has been full and before we realized it we were a family of 8. In our new home we have found a place of positive influences. I have seen many positive changes not only in my art but also with my children. In addition, my wife's musical gifting has begun to flourish through song writing.

I have realized that it is time to be more serious with my talent. What has been unclear to me is what direction I should be going as an artist; my signature if you will. As you can see, I have done a variety of different kinds of work, but primarily on commission or by request. My styles and application have always reflected the needs of the client.

What has been clear is the foundation of who I am and source of strength that I find through faith and family. The current goal is to allow this to come through in my art work. To take my own path and not try to conform to a style that is dictated by the art world.

I enjoy being inspired by a cause. I believe that this defines me as an artist, rather than having one particular style. Fulfillment is not only found in a finished piece, but more importantly found in a life that has been touched through the artist's hand. My strength is found in the saving grace and faith that has been gifted to me in Christ and a family who has enriched my life adding inspiration to purpose.

I will continue on this course with my talent, keeping in mind that my goal is to uplift, inspire, and to show the wonders of God's creation. This is my signature.
